Garmin GPS II+ Hand-held GPS Receiver

Garmin GPS II PlusHaving a synchronized and precise measure of time for all seismic stations in the world is essential for recording and locating seismic events. In order to achieve this the stations on the Ohio Seismic Network use the Garmin GPS II+ hand-held receiver to get absolute time from the GPS satellites.

GPS is generally thought to be a navigation or positioning resource. However, the fact that every GPS receiver is synchronized to Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) read off the GPS satellites makes it a valuable and inexpensive source of precise time.
