Example of Lg Wave
We see below an excellent example of a moderate size (M=5) earthquake recorded by OhioSeis station LCCO at several hundred kilometers. This "typical" eastern North America seismogram shows a small P wave, folowed by a large S, but then an even larger arrival follows behind the S waves — this is Lg. It has the apparent velocity of Sg, but the waveform character of surface waves.
