A small earthquake occurred at 11:00 a.m. on July 23 in northern Kentucky, about six miles southwest of Ripley, Ohio and 1.2 miles west of Minerva, Kentucky. This event occurred near the location of a smaller earthquake on July 18. The July 23rd event was felt in Ripley, Ohio, and at Augusta, Brooksville, and Dover, Kentucky. Some residents reported a sharp, brief shaking and a loud booming sound. Poorly located, felt earthquakes were reported from this general Ohio-Kentucky border region in 1834, 1895, 1933, and 1957.
