This 1996 publication includes a map generated at 1:2,500,000 illustrating Ohio’s 12 soil survey regions.

County Soil Surveys and Supplements    ( Go to Soil Surveys of Ohio download page.)

These publications consist of Soil Surveys, Supplemental Soil Surveys and Interim Soil Surveys.

  • 73 Soil Surveys are the original complete survey containing soil maps, tables, and detailed analysis.
  • 8 Supplemental Soil Surveys contain soil survey text and tables that have been updated to supplement information provided in the soil survey books published most recently by the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service for eight counties.
  • 7 Interim Soil Surveys contain preliminary text and tables published for county Soil Survey update projects so that users will have up-to-date information while waiting for the final edition of the soil survey to be released.

The United States Dept. of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service provides access to PDF files of soil survey books for 71 of Ohio's 88 counties at http://soils.usda.gov/survey/online_surveys/ohio.
Supplement publications are available for seven of the other counties (above). The texts from soil survey books for the other 23 counties have been scanned and can be downloaded from this web page.
