The Map Library and GIS products are part of the Ohio Coastal Atlas suite of mapping resources developed to provide coastal decision-makers, professionals, educators, interest groups and the public with information about Lake Erie and its watershed.
A selection of maps and graphics that focus on Lake Erie and the Lake Erie Watershed which have been used in various OCM applications and/or created for our partner agencies needs are available below to download as PDF files. For watershed maps of individual counties, please see the Coastal Counties maps.
While some maps are created to print at a variety of sizes including large poster format, most map files linked below scaled to print on 11x17 paper. Your printer settings can be adjusted to print the maps on other standard paper sizes. An interactive map viewer with many data layers is accessible by selecting "Create." Topic-specific, interactive Use Case Map Viewers is accessible by selecting "Expand."

Lake Erie Scale Maps
LEPAG – Ohio's Lake Erie Public Access Guidebook Map (all sites)
Each of the 164 public access locations in the 8 coastal counties along Ohio’s 312-mile coast are mapped. Link above is for print on 11x17-inch paper. For other map size options, visit the Lake Erie Public Access Guide page.
LE1 – Political Subdivision Index Map
Illustrates political base map information: County, Municipality and Township jurisdiction boundaries.
LE2 – 7.5 Minute and 15 Minute Quadrangle Index Map
Illustrates and identifies the 7.5 minute and 15 minute quadrangle grids covering Ohio’s coastal region. These quadrangle grid systems correspond to respective topographic map series produced by the US Geological Survey.
LE3 – Ohio Coastal Management Area
This map shows the designated Ohio Coastal Management Area as it is defined in Ohio Revised Code Chapter 1506.01. See also the Designated Coastal Management WebPages.
LE4 – Population Density and Distribution
A dot density map illustrating the population densities and distribution trends of northern and coastal Ohio.
LE5 – Lake Erie Bathymetry
Illustrates and identifies Lake Erie’s bathymetric and geologic features, basins and islands.
LE6 – Wind Turbine Placement Favorability Analysis Map (v1.5)
This map illustrates the locations within Ohio's portion of Lake Erie that are determined favorable and unfavorable for wind turbine placement. The analysis is based on multiple factors including shipping lanes, distance from shore, fish habitat, sport and commercial fishery effort, lakebed substrates, important bird areas, proximity of raptor nests and additional data. (see thematic layer maps below)
LE7 – Lake Erie Islands
This map focuses on Ohio’s Lake Erie islands, including Ballast, Gibraltar, Green, Johnson’s, Kelleys, Middle Bass, North Bass, Rattlesnake, South Bass and Sugar islands and highlights various public access sites. Map size: 11” x 17.”

LEW1 – Ohio’s Lake Erie Watershed
This map focuses on Ohio’s portion of the Lake Erie Watershed and illustrates sub-watershed delineations.
LEW2 - 8 digit HUCs of the entire Lake Erie Watershed
This map illustrates sub-watershed delineations for the entire Lake Erie Watershed based on current data.
LEW3 – Maumee River Watershed in Ohio, MI and IN
This map shows the extent of the Maumee River Watershed and sub watersheds including the portions of the watershed in Ohio, Michigan and Indiana. Counties and communities names and major highways are also illustrated. This is a high resolution map that can be printed 41" by 41" and is 2.6 MB. (download low resolution map - 940 KB)
LEW4 - Northeast Ohio Watersheds
This map illustrates 14-digit Hydrologic Unit Code (HUC) Lake Erie sub-watersheds boundaries, general hydrography and transportation in Northeast Ohio. Focus counties include: Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Medina, Portage, Summit and Trumbull. Map size: ANSI C (17" x 22.")
LEW5 – Sandusky Division of Watercraft Area of Responsibility
This map highlights the Division of Watercraft’s Sandusky field office’s 6-county Area of Responsibility and the boating access sites, state protected lands and water features within the focus area. Counties include: Erie, Hancock, Huron, Ottawa, Sandusky and Seneca.
LEW6 – Maumee Bay Division of Watercraft Area of Responsibility
This map highlights the Division of Watercraft’s Maumee Bay field office’s 8-county Area of Responsibility and the boating access sites, state protected lands and water features within the focus area. Counties include: Defiance, Fulton, Lucas, Henry, Paulding, Putnam, Williams and Wood.
