| To locate the area you are interested in: |
| Under Quick Navigation |
| Option 1: |
click on the address box and then type in the address (capitals not needed) and then click on VIEW |
| Option 2: |
click on the latitude and longitude box and then enter the latitude and longitude in decimal degrees or degrees/minutes/seconds and then click on VIEW |
| Option 3: |
click on state and county. Then select your state and county from the drop down menus and then click on VIEW. Use the zoom in tool (the magnifier with a + above the map display). |
| Select an area of interest: |

Above the map are two boxes (just to the left of the words View Extent), one with a rectangle and one with a polygon. Click on one of these to designate your area of interest. The rectangle will select a proportional area.
Use the polygon to select by going point to point. Left click the first point, left click turning points, and double left click the final point. It is mandatory to select an area of interest.
At this point the acres of the designated area of interest will be displayed. Name the area of interest by typing the information in the vacant box to the left (this is optional).
Click on the LEGEND tab in the upper left corner of the map area and check mark or uncheck mark the information needed to be displayed. Then close the LEGEND box by clicking on the x in the upper right corner of the box. |
| Obtaining soils information: |

Click on the SOIL MAP tab near the top of the page. The soil map will now be displayed. The soil map unit, percent it is of the area, and the acres per map unit will be displayed. Click on the LEGEND tab to check mark or uncheck mark the information to be displayed. Then close the LEGEND box. |
| To obtain soils properties: |

Click on the SOIL DATA EXPLORER tab. There will be four tabs above the map.
Choose what type of information is needed by left clicking on the desired tab. A list of choices will be displayed to the left of the map. Left click on the desired row and choose from the drop down menu.
Choose View Soil Report box for more detailed information on each map unit in the area of interest. Choose the VIEW RATING box for soil specifics. Some categories require setting parameters.
The VIEW DESCRIPTION box will explain the category of information provided. |
| To print the map and soil information: |

At this point you may want to further refine the information to be printed by clicking on the LEGEND tab and turn off or on the layers that you would like displayed.
To set the scale left click on the SCALE box to the left above the map and then follow the directions. Click OK. Set the scale by using the drop down menu. Then left click on the PRINTABLE VERSION box.
Designate a sub title at this point (optional). Choose the page size. Choose the map scale. Left click the View box. A map will be displayed in Adobe.
Click on file, click on print, make choices, and click on OK. |
