REPAIRS TO BEGIN ON FIRE TOWER AT MOHICAN-MEMORIAL STATE FOREST
Fire tower to be open in time for fall color viewing opportunities
 COLUMBUS, OH - Repairs will begin next week at the Mohican-Memorial State Forest Fire Tower that will allow the public to once again have access this popular viewing attraction, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Forestry. The repairs are expected to be completed by mid-October.
Originally constructed in 1934, the fire tower was used by forest officials as a lookout for wildfires. When wildfire detection turned to helicopters and electronic communications, the tower at Mohican became a viewing attraction for the public.
Repairs include replacing some structural supports, damaged steps and landings, as well as scraping, priming, and painting the tower.
The ODNR Division of Forestry manages 20 state forests covering more than 185,000 acres, spanning parts of 21 counties.
