A small earthquake occurred beneath Lake Erie about four miles northwest of Conneaut at 4:46 a.m. and was felt by a number of people in Conneaut and other nearby lakeshore communities. A smaller aftershock of 2.4 magnitude occurred at 11:05 a.m. in the same general location as the mainshock. Although a number of people felt these events, there were no reports of damage. A 2.0 magnitude earthquake occurred in this general area on June 7, 2000.
