A small earthquake occurred beneath Lake Erie about 2 km WNW of Mentor-on-the-Lake on August 27, 2007 at 7:26 p.m. EDT. Felt reports were received from Mentor and Eastlake. No damage was reported nor would be expected from such a small earthquake. This general offshore location has been the site of a number of small earthquakes in recent years.
