 SHAWNEE AND BRUSH CREEK STATE FORESTS
OPEN HOUSE TO BE HELD OCTOBER 13 

WEST PORTSMOUTH, OH – The District 6 Office of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Forestry will host a public Open House on October 13. Attendees will learn about plans for Shawnee and Brush Creek State Forests for Fiscal Year 2005 (July 1, 2004-June 30, 2005). There will also be question/comment opportunities.

What: 2004 Open House for Shawnee and Brush Creek State Forests
When: Wednesday, October 13, 2004 from 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Where: District 6 Office – six miles west of Portsmouth, Ohio at 13291 US Hwy. 52
Presentations: Division of Forestry staff will present information on:
  • Ice storm timber salvage progress and status
  • Resource management plans for FY 2005
  • Prescribed fire plans, short term and long term
  • Forest Health, Oak Mortality Assessment
  • Ohio Horsemen’s Council (Scioto County Chapter) proposal to expand a bridle trail and add a parking area on Rt. 52
  • ODNR production video about the February 2003 Ice Storm which had a dramatic effect on Shawnee State Forest and many Ohio River counties
  • Road and bridge projects planned for FY 2005
  • Riffe CCC Camp removal plans
  • Updated roadside mowing policy
  • New Marcs radio tower completed
  • Statistical summary of FY 2004 accomplishments
  • Staffing level
  • Maintenance project plans
  • fire control
  • law enforcement
  • Brush Creek State Forest office leased to Rarden Township
  • proposed Zoning Revisions
Tentative: There may be a helicopter-logging project underway on Forest Road 14 in Shawnee State Forest. If so, open house attendees will have the opportunity to view the helicopter carrying logs.
