VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR HOCKING STATE FOREST
FAT MAN’S SQUEEZE TRAIL PROJECT
ROCKBRIDGE, OH - Local volunteers are being sought for additional help in the maintenance and repair of a popular trail in Hocking State Forest, according to the ODNR Division of Forestry. This volunteer project is planned for Saturday, September 23 at 8 a.m. at the Fat Man’s Squeeze site of the Rappelling Area along the Buckeye Trail.
“We encourage volunteer partnerships in the maintenance and improvement of recreational sites within Hocking State Forest,” said John Dorka, chief of the ODNR Division of Forestry.
The trail rehabilitation project will complete a section of trail maintenance that was started this summer. A local group of horseback riders recently completed another volunteer work project at Hocking State Forest, which consisted of installing four manure bins and one steel horse-tie at the Hocking State Forest Horseman’s Camp.

The ODNR Division of Forestry manages 20 state forests on more than 185,000 acres, spanning parts of 21 counties. Using Best Management Practices (BMPs), the state foresters demonstrate proper timber management within these forests. Benefits of these properly managed forests include timber, improved forest health, biodiversity, wildlife habitat, aesthetics and recreational opportunities.
