PUBLIC INPUT SOUGHT
FOR UPDATING OHIO COASTAL MANAGEMENT PROGRAM DOCUMENT
Comments solicited during Coastal Resources Advisory Council meeting
on August 24 in Bowling Green
SANDUSKY, OH - In an effort to obtain public input on proposed updates to the Ohio Coastal Management Program (OCMP) Document, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) will solicit both written and verbal comments during the upcoming quarterly meeting of the Ohio Coastal Resources Advisory Council. The meeting is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, August 24 at the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency’s Northwest District Office, 347 North Dunbridge Rd., Bowling Green.
The OCMP Document sets forth guidelines for wise use of Ohio’s valuable coastal resources to ensure their continued benefit for current and future generations. The National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration requires periodic updates of the document to reflect the current administration of the state’s coastal program, administered by the ODNR Office of Coastal Management.
The document contains policies concerning the protection of air, water, wildlife, rare and endangered species, wetlands and natural areas. Networking between local, state and federal entities is an important aspect of the OCMP Document.
The OCMP Document received its initial approval from the federal government in 1997 and was most recently updated in 2001.The proposed updates reflect the creation of the ODNR Office of Coastal Management in 2002 and its role as the central agency in implementing the OCMP.
The proposed changes and a summary and analysis document are available on the Office of Coastal Management website at www.ohiodnr.com/coastal. Comments on the proposed changes will also be accepted until 5 p.m. on August 31 by email at coastal.consistency@dnr.state.oh.us or by mail at ODNR Office of Coastal Management, 105 W. Shoreline Dr., Sandusky, OH, 44870, ATTN: Consistency Coordinator.
