ODNR Watercraft Grants Enhance Public Boating Access
COLUMBUS – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Watercraft has awarded grants for boating access facility projects that will improve and encourage public use and access to Ohio waterways.
Seventeen boating facility design and construction projects will be funded during 2010 an 2011 through the Cooperative Boating Facilities Grant Program. Five of the projects will help propel the state’s fastest growing boating opportunities by improving access for non-motorized boats such as kayaks and canoes. A dozen other approved projects will provide enhanced recreational opportunities for users of motorized watercraft.
In Delaware County, improvements will be made to the Howard Road boat ramp in Alum Creek State Park and a new boat launch ramp will be engineered and designed for Delaware State Park. Projects in Miami County will give a boost to kayak and canoe access in the City of Piqua and in the Miami County Park District.
Statewide, $4.6 million will be allocated to improve waterway access in Clermont, Columbiana, Defiance, Delaware, Erie, Lorain, Medina, Miami, Muskingum, Ottawa, Portage, Preble, Summit and Tuscarawas counties.
ODNR Division of Watercraft administers the Cooperative Boating Facilities Grant Program, which is funded by the state motor fuels tax, watercraft registration and titling fees and funding from the U.S. Coast Guard.
