Division Now Requiring Funding for H. R. Collins Lab
Lab Use and Services
State governments across the nation continue to face serious challenges to provide the best possible services with greatly reduced budgets. During recent years the ODNR Division of Geological Survey has experienced significant reductions in budget and staff. In the past the division has been able to offer use of the core and sample repository at no cost. Unfortunately, this is no longer possible. Like many state agencies, the division must now ask users to pay in appreciation of these services and therefore, has instituted a compensation schedule for access to and sampling of core and cuttings from the Horace R. Collins Laboratory.
Those desiring to sample core and cuttings still must abide by the Core-Use Policy and/or Oil-and-Gas Well Cutting-Use Policy. Academic users not working under a research grant can request a waiver of costs. Parties wishing to use the facility or sample rock materials can obtain an estimate of cost by e-mailing their desired use or sampling program to facility coordinator Gregory Schumacher at greg.schumacher@dnr.state.oh.us or by calling (740) 548-7348, Ext. 125.
Compensation in Appreciation of Services
ATTENTION: The Division of Geological Survey now accepts credit card (Visa or Mastercard only) payments for services rendered at the H. R. Collins Laboratory. Payments may be made by calling the Geologic Records Center at (614) 265-6576.

Please note:
- All material handling and sampling will be performed by ODNR Division of Geological Survey staff members.
- All sampling of materials must adhere to the Core Sample Use Policy and Oil-and-Gas Well Cuttings Use Policy.
- Academic institutions may be eligible for reduction or waiver of compensation.
