Quaternary Geology of Ohio

Map SG-1
(formerly Map No. 2)

by Richard R. Pavey, Richard P. Goldthwait, C. Scott Brockman,
Dennis N. Hull, E. Mac Swinford, and Robert G. Van Horn

Quaternary Geology of Ohio (1999) replaces and updates the long out-of-print Glacial Map of Ohio, by Richard P. Goldthwait, George W. White, and Jane L. Forsyth, which was first published by the U.S. Geological Survey in 1961.

Since 1961, many workers have continued efforts to decipher the Quaternary history, geomorphology, and deposits of Ohio. Map SG-1 consolidates the improved understanding of the state's glacial legacy. Compilation was begun by the late Richard P. Goldthwait and was completed by the staff of the Ohio Geological Survey, particularly the Geologic Mapping and Industrial Minerals Group.

The full-color, 1:500,000-scale map shows and describes 44 units of Holocene, Late Wisconsinan, Illinoian, and pre-Illinoian ages. Also included are a list of data sources, a map of key data sources, and an inset map graphically identifying compilation responsibilities of the authors.
