Digital Data File 2

Well information for using Ohio Division of Oil and Gas records from the Risk Based Data Management System (RBDMS). DDF2 contains all recorded Knox or deeper wells in the eastern half of the state plus all of the wells contained in RBDMS for the western half of the state (5,126 as of 6 June, 2003). This database will be updated quarterly as an interim product until Survey well records are merged with the RBDMS.

Production of Oil and Gas in Ohio (POGO) database
compiled by the staff of the Technology Transfer Group
Digital Data File 4, 1999 (updated yearly)
Price: $25 on CD-ROM (plus tax and handling)

The Production of Oil and Gas in Ohio (POGO) database, the most comprehensive oil and gas database ever assembled for Ohio, contains production data gathered directly from petroleum industry companies and individuals plus all of the production data gathered by the Division of Oil and Gas since 1983. All records in this data set have been matched against valid permits (or older well records). The POGO database contains over 1,100,000 yearly records for more than 77,900 wells. The yearly records include some data as old as 1921. The database also contains over 84,000 monthly production records. Standardized queries have been provided for the user as part of the Microsoft Access database application, including the ability to search by county, township, section, lot, producing formation, operator, API number, and various combinations of these attributes. User-defined queries also can be constructed. Decline curves and estimated ultimate recovery (EUR) calculations can be produced and printed on a well-by-well basis. Query results can be exported to Microsoft Excel for use with other software packages.

Click here for information about how to order the 1999 CD-ROM.

Yearly updates to the POGO database are available for free download to those who have purchased the CD-ROM. See links below for access to the FTP site.

Digital Geophysical Logs

The Division of Geological Survey currently has more than 200 geophysical logs from oil and gas wells (and some of the Survey's core holes) in digital format. All files are in Log ASCII Standard (LAS) format. These LAS-format files are suitable for use in geophysical-log-analysis software systems. The complete collection of digital files is available on CD-ROM for $25.00 per CD, or individual files can be downloaded free directly from the Survey's FTP site. Click here for information about how to order the CD-ROM. See links below for access to the FTP site.

If you would like to donate LAS files from additional wells to this collection, we would be happy to accept them. To donate files please contact Joe Wells at (614) 265-1030, e-mail: joseph.wells@dnr.state.oh.us. As additional files and data from other wells become available, they will be placed on our FTP site for easy access.

Many of the LAS files at this site are available due to the generosity of the Ohio Chapter of the Society of Professional Well Log Analysts (SPWLA) and the Ohio Geological Society. These two professional societies graciously donated the funding necessary to rescue these files from old, 9-track tapes and convert them to the LAS format. We also are grateful to Elite Seismic Processing of Newark, Ohio, for providing the conversion services.

The files on this site are named by the corresponding well's API identifier. If more than one suite of logs per well is available, the API number in the second suite's file name is followed by the abbreviation for the dominant log type in that suite.

The Ohio Compilation of Devonian Shale Data and Investigations, 10/2007

A Devonian shale production database that contains all available data through 2005. Data compiled includes information such as core descriptions, density, gas analyses, total organic content and various geo-chemical analyses. Pertinent publications about Devonian shale from the Gas Research Institute and U.S. Department of Energy have been scanned and placed in a spreadsheet. The spreadsheet also includes an updated reference list of publications that discuss Devonian shale in Ohio.

The Ohio Compilation of Devonian Shale Data and Investigations, 10/2007 is available on CD-ROM for $25 (plus sales tax and shipping). Click here for information about how to order the CD-ROM.
