A small earthquake was felt by residents of Mentor-on-the-Lake and other nearby Lake County communities at 10:02 p.m. EST on January 5, 2006. The computed epicenter was beneath Lake Erie directly north of Eastlake and west of Mentor-on-the-Lake. A 2.8-magnitude earthquake occurred in this general area on September 22, 1999. Residents reported a booming sound or rumbling and a mild vibration. No damage was reported.
