Exempt Commissioned Officers Retirement Weapon & Badge

Subject: Exempt Commissioned Officers Retirement Weapon and Badge
Effective March 13, 2002
Purpose This directive shall serve as a guideline to allow for consistent handling and treatment of exempt commissioned officers retirements, regarding the issued duty weapon and badge.

Issued Duty Weapon: Exempt Commissioned officers within ODNR upon retirement with at least 10 years commissioned service time with ODNR, on a one-time basis, shall have the option to purchase their service weapon at the initial purchase price, less 20% depreciation each year until remaining price is $1. In the case of a retirement due to a psychological disability, the officer will not receive the weapon.

Issued Badge: Exempt Commissioned officers within ODNR upon retirement, shall be given their current badge and credentials identifying them as retired from the State of Ohio. The badge will be presented on a plaque or other suitable format. The division may present a divisional badge marked " retired' in lieu of presenting the original badge.

Documentation: The division's Human Resources Office upon written request shall authorize the division law enforcement staff officer to transfer the weapon and badge to the retiring officer. The law enforcement staff officer shall issue a hand receipt to the retiring officer along with the weapon and badge. A copy shall be placed in the personnel file of the retiring officer and another copy shall be given to the inventory control office of division to mark the transfer.
