EG-3a: Known Abandoned Underground Mines of Ohio 7½-Minute Quadrangles

well-spot mapThe EG-3a series identifies locations and extents of abandoned underground mines (AUMs) in Ohio on computer-generated maps using a USGS 7½-minute topographic quadrangle as a base. (Click here for an index to the 7½-minute quadrangles.)

These full-color maps show available information on mine outline, mine identification number, relation to drainage, and types and locations of mine entries and air or pumping shafts. The information on these maps is based largely upon original mine maps. Although the maps are updated as additional information becomes available, the Geological Survey makes no affirmations concerning the accuracy and completeness of the information on these maps.

Three types of products are available:

  • Print-on-demand paper maps at $8.00 per quadrangle.
  • PDF files on CD-ROM for $4.00 per quadrangle.
  • GIS shape files on CD-ROM for $4.00 per quadrangle.

Prices exclude tax and shipping and handling charges; see ordering information below. For complete state coverage of AUMs, see EG-3. NOTE: The older quadrangle-based and county-based AUM maps on Mylar are no longer available.

Also available is the interactive Abandoned Underground Mine Locator, which allows users to download and view detailed mine maps and identify mines in areas of interest throughout Ohio. Access the locator here.
