Map EG-6 delineates the lowest Underground Sources of Drinking Water (USDW) for those lands in Ohio that historically have been oil-and-gas producing areas. The map is useful for identifying the lowest USDW in and around drilling sites and can assist in the regulatory process so that oil-and-gas wells are constructed in a manner that leaves aquifers protected throughout the productive life of the well. Industry can use the information to assist in constructing effective oil-and-gas-well surface casings for protection of groundwater resources.
