Glacial Mapping
Mapping Ohio's glacial deposits is a high priority of the Geologic Mapping and Industrial Minerals Group and dominates the activities of this group. One major goal in this effort is to conduct systematic, reconnaissance style, three-dimensional mapping of the glacial geology of the entire state. Through a combination of grant funding sources, including the U. S. Geological Survey–STATEMAP component of the National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program and the U.S. EPA Nonpoint Source Pollution Program, the Geologic Mapping Group has completed 3-D glacial mapping for significant areas in southwest, central, northern, and northeastern Ohio.
A second major goal is to conduct detailed, three-dimensional mapping of the glacial geology in selected areas of the state. The Central Great Lakes Geologic Mapping Coalition through the U.S. Geological Survey funds this effort.
