Lorain County 1998-2010
Lorain County has received $404,195 in Ohio Coastal Management Program Grants. This has allowed for projects totaling $1,038,153. The total grant and project amounts do not include those funded through Ohio's Coastal and Estuarine Land Conservation Program (CELCP) which is also administered by the Office of Coastal Management. This plan will supplement the Elyria Plan 2015 with the inclusion of open space opportunities, Best Management Practices (BMPs) guidelines for development, and trail linkages throughout the city. This plan and public meetings will be used to educate Elyria and county residents on the importance of green infrastructure practices, open space preservation, the health of Lake Erie and BMPs.

A 1,200-foot walkway/bike trail will be graded and asphalted, extending the current public walkway at Black River Landing to create access to the waterfront along the southern portion of the site. A plaza for observing the coastal habitat along the Black River will be located adjacent to the main pedestrian entrance. The plaza will feature seating that can be used for educational, cultural and historical presentations.

Lorain Diked Disposal Site Preliminary Master Plan

This plan will provide detailed preliminary plans and engineering estimates for the overall site development of the 58-acre Lorain Diked Disposal Site. Information to be addressed includes: a general design layout for proposed uses, utility extensions, lighting, public preservation areas, and accessibility (parking, walkways, roadways, etc.).

City of Lorain Wastewater Plant Relocation Feasibility Study

A preliminary technical study will be produced that will be a tool for planning and preliminary engineering to move the Black River Wastewater Treatment Plant off of the Lake Erie coast to a new, more appropriate location away from the lakefront. The study will address Lorain’s future wastewater treatment needs and will include preliminary budget/cost estimates for the project.
