WILDLIFE BIOLOGIST 1 
Conducts research & surveys of wildlife & analyzes habitat to define & resolve problems, analyzes data & writes technical reports on results of wildlife surveys, designs or coordinates design of sampling techniques, forms & procedures & prepares some computer programs to analyze data.
Plans, prepares & conducts in-service training workshops, lectures & slide presentations on wildlife ecology & management to district staff, law enforcement staff & wildlife biology students; serves as consultant on strategic planning committees in regard to critical analysis of wildlife issues; provides general & technical information to central office/district staff; answers routine questions from general public; prepares statements for release to media contacts to promote research or management project objectives.
Prepares technical reports based on research results (e.g., gathers biological data through surveys, field research projects & laboratory analysis); prepares, revises & edits priority of scientific, technical & administrative reports.
MINIMUM CLASS QUALIFICATIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT:
Completion of graduate core program in wildlife management, wildlife biology or zoology or other related field of study; 12 mos. exp. in wildlife research.

WILDLIFE BIOLOGIST 2
Acts as project leader over research activities of lower-level staff assigned to state & federally funded research projects, develops, conducts & coordinates all aspects of field research projects & surveys related to wildlife populations & habitats, acts as principal investigator for assigned research projects, develops & implements ecological sampling techniques & schedules (e.g., rabbit trapping for density estimation), develops & prepares annual budgetary & manpower resource needs & estimates for state & federally funded projects & trains field technicians in proper use & implementation of new &/or modified research techniques & plans & participates in development of intra-unit policies & procedures.
Provides administrators & other sections & agencies with survey results & technical advise; attends committee meetings to plan research & solve problems of present research; prepares lectures &/or slide presentations before professional groups on research findings; writes publications, leaflets & articles; presents factual information to public; makes media appearances; conducts literature reviews for information requested by district personnel & division administration; attends wildlife district meetings.
Assists in preparing federal aid documents to qualify research projects for reimbursable funds; assists in formulating long range & annual federal programs, projects & reports; works with various agencies regarding financial accounting & other pertinent details of permit issuance; assists district personnel in resolution of wildlife management problems & preparation of new proposals.
MINIMUM CLASS QUALIFICATIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT:
Completion of graduate core program in wildlife management, wildlife biology or zoology or other related field of study.

WILDLIFE BIOLOGIST SUPERVISOR
Supervises wildlife biologists, wildlife technicians & clerical staff, develops & coordinates state-wide farmland, forestland or wetland wildlife research activities, determines problems associated with farmland, forestland or wetland wildlife, recommends management policy based on research findings, prepares budget & research contracts &prepares annual hunting season recommendations.
Analyzes & interprets research & survey data, prepares technical reports & publications relative to research findings & prepares monthly, operational & special reports.
Provides technical assistance to other state & federal agencies, prepares & presents lectures & slide talks, provides information to news media; testifies at public, court & legislative hearings; serves as technical consultant to headquarters staff, district personnel, hunters & general public; serves on special work groups concerning farmland wildlife.
MINIMUM CLASS QUALIFICATIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT:
Completion of graduate core program in wildlife management, wildlife biology or zoology or related field of study; 6 mos. exp. as research project leader.

WILDLIFE RESEARCH TECHNICIAN
Conducts wildlife surveys & census, traps & bands animals for population, density, sex & age ratio & movement studies, prepares trapping supplies & materials & prepares survey reports.
Operates hunter check-in station; collects data for population & harvest reports (e.g., vegetation analyses for prescribed burning & grazing effects); collects animals parts & performs laboratory analysis of animal tissues.
Performs several wildlife habitat management practices; cuts brush, control burns areas, cover mapping); writes wildlife management plans; prepares reports & maintains files; conducts tours &/or presents slide presentations to public; answers inquiries. Maintains buildings, equipment & grounds (e.g., sweeps & mows grass, removes snow, mops, cleans laboratory equipment, cuts timber, grades roads & ditches, repairs heating, cooling, plumbing, water & electrical systems).
MINIMUM CLASS QUALIFICATIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT:
Completion of undergraduate core program in wildlife management, wildlife biology or zoology or other related field.
-Or 2 yrs. exp. in wildlife management position.

WILDLIFE AREA COORDINATOR
Plans & coordinates wildlife programs on area consisting of 5,000 acres or less, with no higher supervisory personnel on site, & acts as lead worker (i.e., provides work direction & training) over personnel (e.g., wildlife area technicians) engaged in maintenance & care of land & wildlife, or coordinates various field activities for statewide wildlife research projects & prepares cooperative farm management or share crop agreements, prepares budgets, reports, habitat management plans & work schedules & performs some wildlife management tasks.
Monitors &/or participates in maintenance & repair of buildings, automotive equipment (e.g., tractors & trucks), power tools & all farming implements. Traps bands & surveys wildlife population; maintains animal control; prepares vegetative cover maps; records weather data for project area; issues water fowl hunting permits.
Conducts hikes & tours of area; holds water fowl identification clinics; assists personnel of other sections (e.g., assists game protectors with violations); attends meetings.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT:
Completion of undergraduate core program in wildlife management or related field of study; valid driver's license.
-Or 12 mos. exp. as Wildlife Area Technician, 22212, or similar position which involved performance of wildlife management & conservation activities; valid driver's license.

WILDLIFE AREA SUPERVISOR
Plans & coordinates overall wildlife & habitat management programs, projects & activities for forest, upland & wetland wildlife species on assigned area covering more than 5,000 acres of land, develops & writes short & long range technical management policies & procedures, plans & implements habitat management techniques (e.g., controlled burning, timber stand improvement, wetland construction), prepares annual operating budget, cost projections & purchase requests.
Coordinates & implements research projects; evaluates habitat using aerial photographs, global satellite imagery, cover maps, soil maps &/or vegetative analysis; monitors & protects areas inhabited by state & federally designated endangered species; coordinates & monitors research on wildlife populations by collecting data (e.g., visual surveys, trapping & banding, hunter questionnaires & radio telemetry tracking); supervises assigned staff.
Coordinates inspection & maintenance of equipment & facilities; inventories & maintains detailed records of all equipment & facilities to include meeting public safety standards; operates, maintains & repairs heavy equipment (e.g., bulldozers, backhoes); maintains public facilities (e.g., roads, bridges parking lots, shooting ranges).
Represents department to general public & government officials to explain programs, policies & procedures; prepares & presents speeches, seminars & training to general public & school groups; meets with landowners & government officials to resolve wildlife-related issues.
MINIMUM CLASS QUALIFICATIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT:

WILDLIFE AREA TECHNICIAN
Performs variety of habitat management functions (e.g., vegetation control; applies herbicides; selective cuttings; plows, disks & plants food patches; assists with planning & farming crop land), checks or builds nesting structures, assists with cover-mapping of area, traps, bands & releases wildlife for research surveys, conducts hunter bag checks & operates farm & construction machinery & equipment & shop & hand tools (e.g., tractors, mowers, seeders, sprayers, chain saws, small boats & outboard motors, bulldozer & backhoe).
Assists wildlife area supervisor in project coordination; acts as lead worker for any conservation aides &/or temporary work force at assigned wildlife area; prepares necessary reports (e.g., vehicle reports, inventory of supplies); conducts field inspections & testing.
Maintains buildings, grounds & equipment (e.g., changes oil & lubricates trucks & tractors; replaces signs; maintains den & nesting structures; cleans & paints buildings; performs minor tune-ups & carpentry work; sharpens chain saws); maintains related records.
Answers inquiries from public & distributes information; conduct tours; assists personnel from other sections (e.g., assists game protector with game violations)
MINIMUM CLASS QUALIFICATIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT:

WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT CONSULTANT (PRIVATE LANDS BIOLOGIST)
Contacts private landowners, on request, to discuss implementation of wildlife management practices for improvement of wildlife habitat conditions, evaluates habitat conditions & writes specific plan for property giving consideration to present & future land uses, coordinates wildlife management projects, provides verbal & written technical information to public, evaluates, administers, negotiates & assures compliance with wetland restoration & switchgrass contracts, inspects, identifies & reports wetland drainage & filling violations, writes plans of corrective action, conducts on-site inspections to evaluate suitability & value of wetland developments, mediates disputes regarding interpretation of laws, reviews & approves ASCS applications, writes technical articles & reports, coordinates policies of various agencies to determine appropriate funding & reports of violations, defines unusual nuisance animal damage problems & economic severity & recommends immediate solutions.
Provides verbal & written technical information to public involving enforcing/ interpreting Ohio Revised Code, administrative rules & any other state & federal regulation regarding wildlife (e.g., waterfowl regulations, U.S. Clean Water Act, Ohio EPA open burning regulations); provides technical assistance& expertise regarding animal damage control, nuisance, injured & orphaned wildlife, disease outbreak & epidemics (e.g., tranquilizes aggressive animals such as bears; monitors pesticide use & storage; captures injured animals) & presents educational clinics, develops & prepares presentations & displays for fairs & special events.
Maintains contact with various state & federal agencies (e.g., soil conservation service; agricultural stabilization & conservation service; county engineers; soil & water conservation districts; cooperative extension service) for purpose of providing technical guidance & advice regarding adoption of wildlife practices that can be implemented through their existing programs.
Performs variety of public relations activities (e.g., personal contacts; mass media; newsletters; slide shows) to inform public of interrelationship between wildlife management, soil, water, plants & people & represents Division of Wildlife on advisory councils & committees concerning land & water use practices that impact wildlife.

Assists in coordination of all wildlife management programs & activities in assigned district (e.g., assists in planning long & short term programs; prepares, audits & monitors annual equipment & maintenance budgets, work schedules & supporting biological or technical data; prepares legal contracts for sharecropping & timber sales; assists with continuing program of in-service training for field personnel; monitors cover mapping, farm & timber management, area planning, wetland design & construction & other wildlife or habitat management programs), administers district federal aid program & acts as administrative assistant to superior (e.g., advises on matters relating to district wildlife & habitat management programs) & recommends changes in division policy & regulations such as hunting & trapping rules & supervises assigned staff (e.g., wildlife area supervisors &/or consultants).
Prepares & reviews environmental impact statements, inspects & comments on suspected permit violations; prepares district control burning plans for approval, drafts & edits special/technical articles & reports; edits & prepares news releases; writes computer programs & enters data into computer.
Implements biological sampling techniques & schedules & supervises district wildlife management staff in collection of survey & research data (e.g., trapping, banding, sexing & aging waterfowl, turkeys & barn owls; hunter bag checks; wood duck nest & barn box maintenance & utilization); interprets survey & research data; completes oral & written reports & oversees implementation of wildlife management practices formulated from research results.
Attends variety of meetings; assists personnel of other sections (e.g., control burnings, pheasant stocking, nuisance animal control, coordinates tree planter use & other activities as need arises); represents division at inter- governmental & sensitive public meetings, land-use meetings, habitat evaluations & mitigation teams.
