 Alum Creek's Osprey
2006 Fall Migration Summary

2006 Fall Migration SummaryDonate for wildlife
The male departed Alum Creek Reservoir on his migration south during the night of September 19-20.  The satellite picked up his signal as he flew over the open water from Florida to Cuba around 1 pm on September 24th.  After 5 days in Cuba, he headed southeast to Haiti on September 29th, on to the Dominican Republic, then over 400 miles across the ocean to South America.  He crossed the Andes mountains in Venezuela further to the east than in fall 2005, where the elevation wasn’t as high.

The male osprey flew about 3,500 miles during his 3½-week journey.  His migration route was very similar to the one he flew in 2005.  The osprey arrived in Brazil on October 10th and finished the last 100 mile leg of his journey on October 14 when he arrived at the Amazon River.  He stayed at the same set of islands where he over-wintered in 2005, about 50 miles northwest of Tefe, Brazil.
