2012 UPDATE

The osprey occurs on reservoirs and small lakes scattered throughout the state with the heaviest concentrations in northeast and central Ohio.  Constraints on time and manpower no longer allow a complete survey of ospreys nesting in Ohio, thus we census a proportion of the known osprey nests and calculate the number of young produced from the sample.  The number of nests increased to 105 in 2012, and production was approximately 180 chicks in 2012.

Survey details and historical data can be found in the Wetland Species Overview section of the Wildlife Population Status and Hunting Forecast.
