Description
Field crickets are black or reddish brown with antennae that are longer than the body.
Habitat and Habits
Crickets prefer undergrowth that offers protection from wind and cold. The commonly heard song is a series of triple chirps.
Reproduction and Care of the Young
During courtship, the male cricket "dances" and "sings" for a female. The courtship song is an extremely high pitched trill. After mating, the female will bury the eggs, where they may overwinter before hatching in the spring. |
