Wigeons are great wanderers, and this Eurasian species makes regular pilgrimages to North America, and Ohio gets a few a year. Interestingly, our American wigeon turns up occasionally in Europe. Locating a Eurasian wigeon amongst the flocks of spring waterfowl is always memorable - not just because of their rarity, but also because of the drake's showy plumage.

• Clutch Size: 7-8 eggs

• Typical Foods: plant matter

Description
Female Eurasian wigeons are very hard to separate from female American wigeons, and many go undetected.

Habitat and Habits
Most sightings of Eurasian wigeons are from the western Lake Erie marshes. They also occasionally inhabit ponds and lakes. Drakes whistle and hens have a loud keow and a lower qua-awk.

Reproduction and Care of the Young
This species breeds in Eurasia. It creates a nest lined with down and hidden in vegetation. The eggs are creamy white.
