Description
The upperparts of this little mouse are a pale to rich reddish-brown. Its belly and feet are white. The tail is usually shorter than the entire length of the body.
Habitat and Habits
White-footed mice live in a variety of habitats, but are most often found in woody or brushy areas. They are the most abundant rodent in mixed forests and edges of agricultural fields in the United States. They build nests anywhere warm and dry, such as hollow trees or old bird nests.
Reproduction and Care of the Young
This mouse produces two to four litters per year during the breeding season which occurs between March and June. A litter of two to six young are born after gestation periods of 22-28 days. |
