 Cabbage White


The cabbage white butterfly was introduced into Quebec, Canada in 1860 and has spread across North America. Today it is the state's most common butterfly. It is one of the few Ohio butterflies that will fly on overcast days.

Description
This little butterfly is white above with black tips and black submarginal spots on the forewing (one spot on the male and two on the female). The underside of the hindwing is a pale to bright yellow, speckled with grayish and black spots.

Habitat and Habits
The cabbage white is found everywhere except the deep woods.

Reproduction and Care of the Young
The larvae of the cabbage white feed on cultivated cabbage and can be a pest species.
