YOUTH WATERFOWL AND DEER HUNT DRAWINGS AT HEBRON STATE FISH HATCHERY
 

COLUMBUS, OH - Two public drawings will be held on September 19, 2009 at the Hebron State Fish Hatchery for a chance for youths to hunt waterfowl or deer on the hatchery property, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife.
 
Waterfowl Hunt- A total of 36 permits will be drawn for youth waterfowl hunting at Hebron State Fish Hatchery. 

Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. The waterfowl hunt drawing will be held at 9:30 a.m. To participate in the drawing, a non-hunting adult must be present to register. This adult must bring the following to the drawing: proof of purchase of a 2009 Ohio Wetland Stamp -and- a signed 2009 Federal Duck Stamp –and- a 2009 Ohio hunting license. Youths need not be present at the drawing to be eligible for the hunt and up to two youths are eligible to hunt per properly licensed non-hunting adult.  Permits are transferable, but a properly licensed non-hunting adult (18 or older) must accompany the youths during the entire hunt.
 
Hunting days are Saturdays and Sundays only.  The hunting hours will be from legal shooting time until noon.  Youths age 15 and under are eligible to hunt on the first two days (October 3 and 4), while youths age 17 and under are eligible to hunt the remaining ten weekend days.
 
Youth Waterfowl Hunts will be conducted on the following Saturdays and Sundays:
•        October 3 and 4 (youths age 15 or younger only), 17, 18, 24, 25 and 31.
•        December 12 and 13.
 
Deer Hunt- Youths age 17 and under are eligible to hunt deer in the hatchery woodlands when accompanied by a properly licensed non-hunting adult (18 years of age or older).  The hunt will be held during the 2009 Statewide Youth Deer Gun Season (November 21 and 22, 2009).
 
The drawing will be held at approximately 10:30 a.m. To participate in the drawing, a non-hunting adult must be present to register, and must present a 2009 Ohio hunting license -and- a 2009 Ohio Deer Permit.  Youths need not be present at the drawing to be eligible for the hunt.
 
A total of 16 permits will be drawn for four hunting locations. These are half-day hunts.  Four hunters will be selected to hunt in the morning, and four in the afternoon. Only one youth may accompany each non-hunting adult. Permits are transferable, but a properly licensed non-hunting adult (18 or older) must accompany the youth during the entire hunt.
 
The Division of Wildlife's Hebron State Fish Hatchery is located in Licking County, two miles south of Hebron, at 10517 Canal Road South East. Stamps and licenses will not be available for sale at the drawing. Only one registration card per fully licensed adult may be entered for each drawing.

Archers are encouraged to bring their archery equipment along with them on September 19 to try out the Hebron State Fish Hatchery archery range after the drawings are completed. The archery range features 20 and 40-yard lanes with both standard and broadhead targets, plus six lanes designed for the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) with targets stationed at 10 and 15 meters. There is also a 12-foot high shooting tower for archers getting ready for the upcoming deer hunting season.
 
The Hebron State Fish Hatchery archery range is open to the public from dawn to dusk, seven days a week the year around.  No permit or user fee is required.  The range, with the exception of the elevated shooting tower, is accessible to mobility impaired archers.
