FHFH helps hunters return to their heritage as food-providers by transforming deer - renewable resources- into meals for the hungry.

TROY, OH – The Miami County Chapter of Pheasants Forever (PF) will be hosting an Invasive Plant Management Workshop according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife. WEST UNION, OH – Deer hunters will again have access to prime deer hunting land at the Edge of Appalachia Preserve in Adams County for the 2011-2012 hunting season.  The Nature Conservancy (TNC), Cincinnati Museum Center (CMC), and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife opened land to deer hunting by permit only in 2006. New this season hunters must attend an informational meeting prior to the season to obtain The Edge of Appalachia hunting permits.

XENIA, OH – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife is sponsoring a Family Outdoor Skills Day on Saturday September 17, 2011.  The event will feature shotgun, rifle, pellet gun and archery shooting activities and instruction. This family-friendly day will be held at Spring Valley Shooting Range in Greene County from noon to 5:00pm. All range fees are waived for the event participants and the equipment and ammunition will be provided.

XENIA, OH – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife will again hold controlled hunts on Fallsville, Indian Creek, Bott,  Spring Valley, and Rush Run Wildlife Areas by permit only Sept. 1 and 2, 2011.  These areas will be open to all other dove hunters after the first 2 days of the season. Youth priority hunts will take place at St. Marys Fish Hatchery. Accommodations will be provided to handicapped dove hunters that are selected for the controlled dove hunts.  They should contact the staff at the wildlife areas.

XENIA, OH –Wildlife Officer Mike Ohlrich was recently assigned as the new Clermont County Wildlife Officer, according to the ODNR Division of Wildlife. Wildlife Officer Ohlrich’s new assignment follows former Clermont County Wildlife Officer Terry Glynns retirement in December of 2010.  Officer Glynn served nearly thirty years with the Division of Wildlife.

COLLEGE CORNER, OHIO - Young turkey hunters will be able to take advantage of a permit only Youth Turkey Hunt at Hueston Woods State Park during the 2011 spring turkey season. Hunters 17 years of age and younger, accompanied by a non-hunting adult, are eligible to apply to hunt specified zones within the park May 7, 2011.

XENIA, OH–The Ohio Department of Natural Resources-Division of Wildlife, along with Pheasants Forever (PF), U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), The Ohio State University Extension (OSU), and the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) are hosting quail management workshops in several counties.  The Workshops are free and open to the public.

VERSAILLES, OH – Heavy rains in June 2010 caused the release of manure into the Indian Creek from a livestock production farm near Versailles. Oxygen levels were temporarily depleted in an eight mile stretch downstream of the Schmitmeyer farm located on York Rd. As a result of the manure runoff more than 24,000 fish and other aquatic wildlife were killed according to the ODNR Division of Wildlife.
