AKRON, OH – Spaces are still available for adults, groups, or conservation clubs who have a sincere interest in taking kids fishing and want to become certified fishing instructors. A free workshop is available on Wednesday, September 30th from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and will take place at Wildlife District Three, 912 Portage Lakes Drive, Akron.

AKRON, OH – Northeast Ohio sportsmen and women who are interested in becoming Hunter Education Instructors are encouraged to register for an upcoming training workshop in Akron according to the Ohio Division of Wildlife. The workshop will take place on Saturday, October 31st and Sunday, November 1st, 2009. Attendance is required on both dates to become certified.

AKRON, OH – The Ohio Division of Wildlife will hold a public drawing for controlled waterfowl daily hunting permits on Wednesday, September 23, 2009 for portions of Killbuck Marsh Wildlife Area. The drawing will be held at the Valley College Grange, 2411 Shreve Road, Wooster. Valley College Grange is located south of Wooster on State Route 226, 0.1 mile south of State Route 3.

CLEVELAND, OH - The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (OEPA) and the ODNR Division of Wildlife with assistance from the U.S. Coastguard- Cleveland, are working together to investigate a spill consisting of an oily substance that was dumped into the Cleveland City sewer system and consequently flowed into the Cuyahoga River according to the ODNR Division of Wildlife. The source of the spill is unknown at this time.

MOGADORE, OH – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife is entering into an agreement with The Trust for Public Land (TPL) to acquire 690 acres from The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. The Portage County property is locally known as Wingfoot Lake Park. In recognition of the name’s historical significance, the ODNR Division of Wildlife will identify the property as the Wingfoot Lake Wildlife Area.

CLEVELAND,OH – Wildlife biologists from the ODNR Division of Wildlife will be examining peregrine falcon chicks and placing identifying metal bands on their legs on Friday, May 8th, 2009. A total of three chicks began hatching on April 18th. A fourth egg remains in the nest unhatched.

RAVENNA, OH- April 22, 2009 marked the 39th anniversary of Earth Day. To commemorate this event, the Ohio Division of Wildlife completed one of its most successful collaborations to date. Fish management personnel and the Mahoning County Green Team joined forces to gather used Christmas trees and cinder blocks across northeast Ohio and introduce them as fish concentration devices into West Branch Reservoir (Portage County).
