COLUMBUS, OH - Hunters wanting to participate in Ohio's fall controlled deer and waterfowl hunts have until July 31 to submit permit applications for a random drawing according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Wildlife. These special hunts are held on selected public areas to provide additional hunting opportunities.

AKRON, OH – In 2010, approximately 31 different black bears were confirmed in the Buckeye State according to the ODNR Division of Wildlife. While the population of Ohio’s largest mammal, a state endangered species, may not exactly increase in 2011, sightings of the burly creatures are expected to rise in the summer months.

Thirty-one Ohio teams of 699 student archers competed at the 2011 National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) National Championship, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Wildlife. The competition was held in Louisville, Kentucky on May 13 and 14; it drew more than 7,000 students from 34 states and Canadian provinces.

David B. Lane has been appointed chief of the state’s Division of Wildlife by Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Director David Mustine. Lane has served as acting District Manager for the division’s District One Wildlife Office in central Ohio since October of 2009. He replaces David M. Graham who retired from the position earlier this year.

FINDLAY,OH – A Huron County man was found guilty of the illegal harvest of a deer that was taken in November of 2010. Arlie Risner, 58, of Bellevue pled no contest and was found guilty in the Norwalk Municipal Court, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife.

FINDLAY, OH -- The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Wildlife will be banding peregrine falcon chicks from the First National Bank Building nest in Lima on Thursday May 19. Anyone interested may meet with Division of Wildlife biologists at approximately 10:00 am on the town square, which is located on the corner of West Market Street and North Main Street. CLEVELAND,OH – Wildlife biologists from the ODNR Division of Wildlife will be examining peregrine falcon chicks and placing identifying metal bands on their legs Wednesday, May 11th, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. A total of three chicks began hatching on April 23rd. A fourth egg failed to hatch. The falcon parents are Boomer (male) and S/W (female).

FINDLAY, OH – The cases against seven Iowa residents, five Illinois residents, and one Missouri resident came to a close April 18, 2011. A total of 22 walleye related charges were filed in the Ottawa Municipal Court. The offenders all plead guilty and were found guilty by Court Magistrate Lou Wargo. The total fines, court costs, and restitutions were $4900.
