What To Look For
Woodlawn is one of Ohio's most beautiful cemeteries, and its 160 acres features many large cone-bearing conifer trees. The cemetery is legendary for boreal irruptive species such as crossbills, Pine Siskin, Red-breasted Nuthatches, and Common Redpolls. If it is an invasion winter for any of these species there are sure to be some in the cemetery. Good numbers and diversity of songbirds can be recorded during spring and fall migration. Long-eared Owl and Northern Saw-whet Owl are possible in migration and winter, but finding one means carefully searching dense conifers. Northern Goshawk has also been found in winter. Over 200 species have been recorded in the cemetery.
