What To Look For
Owned and managed by Erie MetroParks, the 1,300-acre Edison Woods Preserve is one of the largest contiguous blocks of woodland in the region. As such, it harbors a great diversity of forest-breeding birds such as Pileated Woodpecker, Acadian Flycatcher, Wood Thrush, Hooded Warbler, Louisiana Waterthrush, and Scarlet Tanager. The forested areas of the preserve can also be great for migrant songbirds both spring and fall. Grasslands are also present, and these support several species of nesting sparrows and other grassland birds, and can harbor Northern Harrier and Short-eared Owl in winter. |

Natural Features
Nearly 500 species of plants have been identified on the site to date, and the spring wildflowers are impressive. The very rare long-bracted orchid, Coeloglossum viride, has been found, as has the equally rare common oak fern, Gymnocarpium dryopteris. |
