Driving Directions
Take I-90 to State Route 44 south. Turn left (east) onto
Girdled Road for 3.5 miles. Proceed to Girdled Road
Reservation on the right (south).

What To Look For
This Lake County Metropark encompasses over 900 acres, and contains a rich tapestry of forests, meadows, and wetlands. Bird life is rich, especially during the breeding season. Over 110 species have bred, or at least been suspected of nesting. Open meadows harbor Bobolink, Grasshopper, Henslow's, and Savannah sparrows, at least some years. Nineteen species of warblers have bred, including both waterthrushes, Blue-winged and Golden-winged warblers, Mourning Warbler, and Prairie Warbler.
Migration, both spring and fall, can be very productive and all of the regularly occuring migrant songbirds that pass through northeastern Ohio can be expected. Northern Shrikes sometimes appear in winter, along with Northern Harrier, Rough-legged Hawk, and Short-eared Owl. |

Noteworthy Rarities
Rarer nesting warblers have included Blackburnian, Magnolia, Cerulean, and Kentucky warblers.

Natural Features
Steep-sided cool hemlock ravines support small populations of the threatened hobblebush (Viburnum alnifolium). Tremendous numbers and diversity of dragonflies can be found around the wetland and streams, including spatterdock darner, riffle snaketail, and marsh bluet (the latter two are threatened in Ohio).
