Fisheries research is an important tool for improving inland fishing opportunities throughout Ohio and better understanding our complex aquatic ecosystems. The Division of Wildlife conducts research through its Inland Fisheries Research Unit and in cooperation with research partners at a number of universities. The primary research partner for the Division of Wildlife is
The Ohio State University’s Aquatic Ecology Laboratory. The Aquatic Ecology Laboratory has worked with the Division of Wildlife to study the reproductive success of largemouth bass and crappie in reservoirs, stocking success of walleye and saugeye, techniques for fertilization of hatchery ponds to improve fish production, and many other topics.
