HISTORY AND DESCRIPTION

Alum Creek Lake was constructed by the
Army Corps of Engineers in the early 1970s. The lake was completed and filled by summer of 1976. At full pool, the lake is about 3,269 acres. Maximum depth is about 60 feet near the dam, with much of the water depths ranging from 20 to 40 feet. Deep wooded ravines, abandoned farm fields, and high shale bluffs make up the irregular shoreline.

RECREATIONAL FACILITIES AND OPPORTUNITIES
The
Division of Parks and Recreation operates and maintains parking lots, boat ramps, boat docks, campgrounds, swimming beaches, picnic areas, and horseback riding and hiking trails. Campgrounds provide drinking water, flush toilets, shower facilities, trailer waste dump stations, and picnic tables. Outboard motors of unlimited horsepower are allowed, but portions of the lake contain no-wake zones.

The high shale bluffs, three rock covered causeways, and deep coves with standing timber provide excellent fish habitat and fishing opportunities. Largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, muskellunge, and saugeye fishing is above average to excellent. Other species that are popular include black and white crappie, white bass, and channel catfish.
