Facilities

The Visitor Center contains natural history exhibits, a freshwater aquarium, weather station, a bird viewing window and nature art that depicts the ecology of the estuary and surrounding watershed. Exhibits illustrate topics as diverse as glacial geology, land use change, real-time weather and water quality monitoring data and green building materials. An adjacent parking lot provides easy access to the Center.

Research centerThe research laboratories are specialized facilities designed to meet the needs of today's coastal wetlands research and monitoring community. A well-equipped chemistry laboratory reflects the importance of water quality in estuarine research. In addition, three smaller laboratories provide space for many other types of research and monitoring projects.

Display boardA classroom is used for educational programs, public forums and workshops for students, educators and environmental professionals.

The two-miles plus pedestrian only trail system winds through an oak-hickory forest to an observation deck overlooking the estuary and through several other habitats.
