Purple martin houses should be located in open areas and near water if it is available. It is difficult to predict where martins will nest unless a colony is already established. Experts advise putting up a small (six-room) martin house first. If the house is used, then erect a larger one.
The house should be cleaned and ready by the time the male scouts return, early in April.
