The window-sill feeder is a popular form of platform feeder. A trolley feeder, fastened to a wire and gradually moved from an area where birds are used to feeding to the windowsill is often useful.

However, these devices are seldom successful unless the neighborhood is planted so that birds naturally visit the area. If plantings attract the birds, nesting boxes and birdbaths, as well as feeding, can persuade them to stay.
