A small earthquake occurred at 5:44 p.m. EDT approximately 6 miles south of Ripley, Brown County, Ohio and 2 miles west of Minerva, Bracken County, Kentucky. This event was followed by a larger, felt earthquake in the same general area on July 23 at 11:00 a.m. There were felt, but poorly located earthquakes in this Ohio-Kentucky border region in 1834, 1895, 1933, and 1957. These events could have had epicenters either in Ohio or Kentucky.
