New Inland Regulations for the 2011-2012 Season
New 15-inch minimum length limits were implemented for saugeye on March 1, 2011 at the following reservoirs:
- Central Ohio: Alum Creek Lake, Buckeye Lake, and Indian Lake
- Northeast Ohio: Atwood Lake, and Tappan Lake
- Northwest Ohio: Ferguson Reservoir, Findlay Reservoir #1, Findlay Reservoir #2, Metzger Reservoir, Pleasant Hill Lake
- Southeast Ohio: Lake Snowden, Piedmont Lake, and Seneca Lake
- Southwest Ohio: Acton Lake, Caesar Creek Lake, and Rocky Fork Lake
In addition, a 15-inch minimum with a 6 fish daily limit was implimented on walleye at West Branch Reservoir.
A 15-inch size limit increases the number of quality fish in a lake by preventing harvest of young saugeye, providing them an extra year of growth. The new saugeye regulations are implimented on lakes where saugeye grow quickly and are harvested at a young age. The 15-inch minimum length and 6 fish daily limits were previously implemented for walleye in Berlin Lake, C.J. Brown Reservoir, Lake Milton, and Pymatuning Lake. Angler support is strong for these new regulations based on online and on-the-water surveys of Ohio fishermen. The 6-fish daily limit has been implemented at all reservoirs where 15-inch minimum length limits on saugeye and walleye are in place to help fairly distribute the catch among anglers and to maintain quality fishing for all anglers to enjoy.
