|A new Pumpkinseed Sunfish weighing 1.10 pounds was caught by Scott Boykin of Uniontown, Ohio, from a farm pond in Portage County. Boykin’s record catch was 10-1/2 inches long and was caught using waxworms for bait on June 12, 2009.
Boykins record replaces the previous state record Pumpkinseed caught in 2001 by Terry Rush while ice fishing that weighed 3/4 of a pound and was 9-1/2 inches long. Ohio Division of Wildlife fisheries biologist Matt Wolfe at Wildlife District Three identified Boykin’s catch.
Ohio state record fish are certified by the Outdoor Writers of Ohio State Record Fish Committee. Assisting in the process is fisheries biologist with the Ohio Division of Wildlife.
