The 0.7-acre Lakeside Cemetery is on U.S. Route 6 (Lake Road) just west of the Pinewood Road intersection in Bay Village. The site is Cuyahoga County’s westernmost coastal public access location.

Platted in 1814, Lakeside Cemetery was the first public burying ground in Dover Township, which is now Bay Village, Westlake and the northern portion of North Olmsted. The cemetery was created after settler Reuben Osborn donated land to bury two people who drowned attempting to cross the Rocky River by boat. Additional land was later purchased to bring the site to its current size.

Internments were not recorded until 1879; however, there are more than 270 known burials. Among those interned are veterans from the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, the Civil War, the Spanish-American War and World War I.

Direct shore access here is blocked by a black cast iron fence running the length of the cemetery.

There are no amenities at the cemetery. An access road loops the perimeter of the cemetery but there is no parking. Public parking is available approximately 1,000 feet east at Cleveland Metroparks’ Huntington Reservation. An Ohio historical marker is found on site.
