The 51.5-acre Gordon Park is one of the parks that comprise Cleveland Metroparks’ Lakefront Reservation. Gordon Park has multiple access points, with the main entrance off of Lake Shore Boulevard.

The west end of Lake Shore Boulevard connects to Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive; the drive also connects to the east end of North Marginal Road. Gordon Park’s six-lane boat launch and car-trailer parking lot are accessed from the North Marginal Road entrance. Vehicle traffic is not permitted to travel from the east section of North Marginal Road to the portion of the road where East 55th Street Marina is located. However, the 17-mile long paved Cleveland Lakefront Bikeway directly connects the two parks via a footbridge.

Gordon Park is a mix of open and partially shaded green space and picnic areas. Fishing access is provided along the park’s 1.3 miles of armored coast, including the lengths of various piers and revetments that comprise the park’s entirely manmade shore. There are no park roads that connect the East 72nd Street Fishing Area of Gordon Park with East 55th Street Marina to the west.

The Cleveland Electric & Illuminating Company (operated by First Energy Corp.) has warm water discharge adjacent to the east of Gordon Park. The power plant’s warm water discharge into Lake Erie attracts fish and birds, especially during winter months when the rest of the lake may be covered by ice.

UPDATE: On June 6, 2013, Cleveland Metroparks assumed management of certain lakefront state park properties including this site. While the city of Cleveland continues to own the property, Cleveland Metroparks holds a 99-year lease to manage and enhance the park. Publications and electronic materials from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and others may still reflect the state’s previous management of the property.
